Robin Wang and his team at SNP have always held a design philosophy that cities cannot evolve without history. This belief guided their approach to the Qingdao Steel Fortress project. The design team managed to retain the original red brick of the existing structures while introducing anodised aluminium, a modern construction material. The Qingdao Steel Fortress was formerly home to several plants and industrial equipment. The SNP Group saw potential in this location and decided to transform it into a steel fort theme park, all while retaining the building's original character. The first floor serves as a temporary exhibition hall, and the second floor is the main exhibition area. Open staircases in the public area facilitate public activities, and new business forms such as catering and cultural creativity have been introduced to cater to the diverse needs of modern society.

The project, which started in April 2021 and was completed in June 2021, was not without its challenges. The design team faced the difficult task of renovating the building while preserving its historical characteristics that evoke people's memories and curiosity. They also had to find a way to combine commercial function with a cultural exhibition hall. Despite these challenges, the team managed to create a space that connects the past and the present of the city.

The rusty plate carries historical memories, and the unobtrusive expression at the entrance contrasts with the bold presentation inside.
